Groups from different faiths will be gathering together to make their towns better.

To mark Mitzvah Day on Sunday November 17, Aldenham All Faiths Council and Radlett Council for Christians and Jews are organising a mass litter pick.

Anyone is welcome to join the group, at Newberries car park off Radlett High Street at 2pm, and to their bit to keep Aldenham, Letchmore Heath, Shenley and Elstree tidy.

The annual day of social action and giving celebrated by the Jewish community coincides with National Interfaith Week, which celebrates the similarities and differences between different faiths and build relations.

On the same day, members of the public will be able to play a part in celebrating diversity at a 'Groundforce' challenge at St John the Baptist Church in Aldenham.

Volunteers will help clear the 11th century churchyard of brambles and undergrowth to prepare it for an archaeological survey starting at 2pm. Afterwards there will be tea in the Reform Synagogue in Radlett High Street.

Hertsmere Borough Councillor Charles Goldstein, who is responsible for equality and diversity, said: “National Inter Faith Week provides a focal point, helping to open inter faith activity up to a wider audience so that more and more people are made aware of the importance of this vital work and are able to participate in it.

“It’s a brilliant way to celebrate the diversity of our borough and explore, not just our differences, but also our common ground.  I’d encourage everyone to get involved, there’s something for everyone.”
