The founder of an organisation fighting sexual abuse of girls in Africa will be speaking in Borehamwood.

Elstree and Borehamwood Rotary Club and the NSPCC have joined with other organisations to bring Zimbabwean women’s activist Betty Makoni to the town tomorrow.

The founder of the Girl Child Network will speak about how people can work together to empower vulnerable women.

Rotary Club member Barbara Kennedy and manager of carers' charity Crossroads Care South said she hopes people will come to the event to be better informed about violence against women.

She added: “We all need to realise the terrible things that happen to females, even girls as young as six months old.”

Another member, Sasha Capocci, has met and heard Betty Makoni and said she was "delighted" the charity founder had accepted the invitation.

The talk, Not to any Girl Ever Again, begins at 7pm in the Fairway Hall in Brook Close.

There will also be a performance by the community choir.

Tickets are £5 and are available by calling Sasha Capocci on 07771 862 820 or Barbara Kennedy on 07764 408091.
