The Florist more than lives up to its name. Entire walls are covered with flowers, trees heavy with pink blossom stand between the tables, and plants even hang in bunches from the ceiling. It’s an Instagram dream, complete with neon signs and bright flashes of Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2019, Living Coral.

The vibrant pink shade and floral theme even feature in the menu, with cocktails including Rhubarb in Bloom and Raspberry Rose Sour.

The new bar and restaurant opened in Watford on Monday (April 22), and is a stylish addition to intu Watford’s increasing portfolio of eateries.

The Florist, though, stands out for its beautiful interiors and its extensive cocktail menu, which is divided into five themed sections. Stand-out drinks include the Elderflower Yusu Spritz, a light and refreshing blend of elderflower liqueur, yuzu citris sake, white peach liqueur, Chenin Blanc and lemonade. I would also recommend Rhubarb in Bloom, a fruity and warming blend of gin, rhubarb liqueur, raspberry and rhubarb syrup, rhubarb bitters and ginger beer. A special mention also goes to the Koala Tree Mojito, a clever reinvention of a classic cocktail, with spiced rum, lime juice, mango and pineapple juice, passion fruit syrup and mint.

The Florist also has an intriguing menu of varied dishes, from sushi and katsu curry to a full English brunch and homemade blueberry pancakes. They even serve Sunday roast of chicken, lamb, beef or pork, or a mushroom and chestnut roast for vegetarians.

One of the best things about The Florist is its double balconies, decorated with yet more blossom trees and with metal lanterns softly glowing on each table. In spring and summer it will be a calm oasis in which to sit back and have a drink, watching shoppers hurrying about the high street while feeling elevated above the chaos. With a cocktail in one hand and some delicious nibbles in the other, all you need is someone to take an Instagram photo of you in front of that flower wall.
