"My parents bought the house after being bombed out of their flat in London's West End in 1942 and loved the feeling of the countryside but still being so near to the centre of London. My brother and myself were born and brought up here and had a wonderful childhood especially in the school holidays. No matter winter or summer we were always "out the back" as we called the woods at the bottom of the garden playing with neighbour's children all day long. Making "camps", climbing up and falling out of trees, paddling in the brook and falling in stinging nettles and rubbing dock leaves to take away the sting! Christmas was magical as we were told Father Christmas used to park his sleigh on our flat roof and my brother and I would listen hard and swear we heard sleigh bells and pretended to be asleep hoping to see him. When it was icy or snowy we had great fun on sledges down the hill in front of the house. As children we saw many different birds and their nests in springtime, we also saw dragonflies, field mice, hedgehogs, and all types of insects which were carefully brought home in jam jars to be identified and talked about in school. The Oak Tree at the bottom of the garden is believed to be over 200 years old and is home to a great variety of wildlife and of interest to old and young alike. In summertime my father was always either tending his vegetables or up the ladder painting the outside of the house. As we grew up and moved away it was always a joy to come home and see my parents and delight in the love and warmth that flowed from their home which they eventually left to me. I hope whoever moves in will also feel the nice welcoming atmosphere and be as happy in it as I was"Lounge4.55m x 4.04m (14' 11" x 13' 3")
