Boreham Wood have completed the signing of Jamie Turley on a one-year loan deal from Newport County.

The 27-year-old joined County in July 2016, going on to score once in six League Two outings last term.

Turley, who has 170 non-league appearances to his name, is keen to get started at his new club and believes he can achieve his goals at Meadow Park.

“I am really excited and I am really looking forward to getting going,” Turley said.

“Boreham Wood are an ambitious club, with an ambitious manager and it ticked a lot of boxes for me.”

The defender’s experience was a big plus for Wood as they prepare for the upcoming National League campaign.

Having started out at Wycombe Wanderers he had stints at Bristol Rovers,Eastleigh and Forest Green before joining County.

Turley believes his knowledge of the division will help him settle well at the club and feels he has plenty to offer.

He said: “I believe that I can bring pace and power to the side, and I know the league very well because I have spent a lot of time there.

“I just want to get back out there playing and I can hopefully do well enough to get selected, because I haven’t got a right to go straight into the team.”

An injury-hit 2016/17 campaign means the centre-back arrives at the club looking to regain his fitness.

After enjoying his time with Newport, his ultimate aim is to make a return to the Football League , “I obviously haven’t trained yet, but it seems like a very good group and if everyone can pull in the same direction then we can have a successful season,” he said.

“Having now played in the Football League, it has given me the hunger to get back to the division.

“I have had a taste of it now, I want to be in the Football League.”

On the pitch, Wood concluded their pre-season preparations with a comprehensive 4-1 win over a Barnet XI.

The hosts took the lead through Shaun Jeffers’ scored in each half to give the hosts a 2-0 lead before Nana Kyei reduced the deficit.

It proved to be a mere consolation for the Bees as strikes from Keiran Murtagh and Angelo Balanta sealed the win late on.

Wood start their league campaign against AFC Flyde tomorrow.
