Boreham Wood fell to back-to-back league defeats for the first time this season with a disappointing 2-0 loss at Aldershot Town.

The Wood were second-best in Hampshire throughout in a performance described by manager Luke Garrard as "below-par", and conceded two poor goals to drop to eighth in the National League table.

Four changes followed last week's defeat to rock-bottom Guiseley, but could not stop goals in either half from Scott Rendell and Idris Kanu which condemned them to defeat.

Anthony Jeffrey, so influential in recent weeks, was a big miss through suspension, while Jamie Lucas, Daniel Uchechi and Matt Paine also dropped out of the starting 11.

Bruno Andrade, Ricky Shakes, David Stephens and Conor Clifford took their places, and the much-changed side may have contributed to a slow start to the game from both sides.

It was Andrade who would fire the first effort of the game goalwards from a free-kick 30 yards out, but he could not deliver the strike with enough bend to trouble home goalkeeper Phil Smith.

A chilly day was not helping the Wood players with the conditions at the Recreation Ground, and a slip from Ben Nunn would allow Bernard Mensah a free run down the wing.

His cross for Rendell was well struck and he stroked the ball beyond Grant Smith for the opener.

Mensah nearly turned scorer after the break but Smith held on to his snap shot, before Dion Conroy also went close, and forced the stopper into a full-length save.

The second goal would prove particularly frustrating to Garrard, beginning with a Wood free-kick inside the opposition half.

Nunn took short but his pass towards Kenny Davis was poor, and Mensah's interception was laid out to Kanu, whose pace proved too much to deal with.

The forward used his pace to good effect to get past Femi Ilesanmi before slotting home.

It proved enough to kill the game as a contest, as the visitors fell to a disappointing defeat.
