Luke Garrard has hinted at imminent arrivals at Boreham Wood following Friday's 2-1 friendly win over Brentford.

Goals from Bruno Andrade and Conor Clifford in each half secured the win for Wood against Championship opposition at Meadow Park.

Garrard handed debuts to his five summer recruits - Andrade, Mark Ricketts, Kenny Davis, Adriano Moke and Matt Paine - while there were nine trialists involved.

And the Wood boss is hopeful of completing further deals this weekend as preparations for the new National League season continue.

"Potentially [there will be a couple of boys joining up with us]," said Garrard. "We're trying to get a couple of signings over the line. If that happens over the weekend I will use them in the game on Monday evening."

Reflecting on victory over Dean Smith's Bees, a positive Garrard said: "It was a great workout for the boys. It was always going to be tough against Brentford. It's all about fitness at this stage and the boys looked strong.

"I learnt that we're organised, well drilled and we've got people in there who can talk each other through their games. We were well disciplined. When we turned it over we had opportunities and looked bright going forward.

"In the second half they turned it on. They changed their shape and I felt we were disciplined and worked hard - you can't question their work ethic. We were playing against a Championship side [and they did well]."

Garrard's focus will be on bolstering his squad in the coming days and weeks. But the Brentford win also provided the perfect send-off for fans' favourite James Russell.

The goalkeeper has agreed to join Ian Allinson's St Albans City as his work commitments at Chelsea, where he coaches the club's academy keepers, prevent him from playing in the National League. The 2015/16 Player of the Year came on with 25 minutes remaining in his farewell appearance and was warmly received.

"It was a nice little touch to get him a rapture of applause with half an hour to play," said Garrard. "He was a great servant for this club and I felt he deserved it and the club deserved it. He left in the off-season so no-one could really say goodbye - shame he let a goal in!"
