Luke Garrard has turned his attention to bolstering Boreham Wood’s striking options and revealed he has two players on trial.

The National League outfit do not have a senior striker left at the club following and end-of-season clear-out at Meadow Park. Charlie MacDonald was released after ending the season on loan at St Albans City, Junior Morias and Jordan Chiedozie rejected new contracts, Harry White returned to parent club Barnsley and Delano Sam-Yorke to Forest Green Rovers.

“We’re looking at forwards now,” said Garrard. “They were always going to be the next thing to come through the door.

“I’ve got a couple on trial for the next two weeks. I’ve got the first few sessions to gauge them. I’m also in contact with a couple of others.”

Morias, who ended last season with three goals in 31 appearances, was offered a contract but turned it down. As he is under the age of 23 Wood are entitled to a fee from the club who sign him. The same applies to Billy Clifford and Chiedozie.

“Their departures were to be expected,” admitted Garrard. “We held conversations in regards to keeping them and offers went out to them. But, no disrespect, we signed Bruno Andrade off the back of their departures.”

Andrade, who joined from Woking, is one of five summer signings at Meadow Park already. He is joined in Hertfordshire by his former captain at the Surrey club – Mark Ricketts.

Braintree Town captain Kenny Davis has joined along with former Iron teammate Matt Paine. Winger Adriano Moke has also joined from Wrexham.

All five are established National League players and Garrard believes that represents a coup for Wood.

“It’s a huge accolade for this club,” he said. “The selling point for me is the facilities and ambition of the club. We’re trying to move those sort of things up to the same level as on the pitch.

“We had a year at this level now and played against Woking and Braintree Town so they’ve seen the facilities available. We now do daytime training which is a huge plus point for those players.

“It’s nice to magpie clubs in the area. Maidstone United and Sutton United have been promoted but they’re in a different area so I don’t think they’ll affect us too much.”

Boreham Wood play their first friendly fixture next Friday when Championship Brentford visit.
