Boreham Wood have completed their fourth summer signing with Woking captain Mark Ricketts joining the National League side.

Defensive midfielder Ricketts joins after seven years with Woking, where he made 276 appearances, scoring three times and he played an important part in the Cards side which won the Conference South in 2012.

Ricketts began his career with Charlton Athletic and after a loan spell with MK Dons during the 2005/06 season, he moved to Ebbsfleet United having not been offered a new contract at the Valley.

Following three years at Ebbsfleet, Ricketts signed for Woking in July 2009 and he was made club captain just a year after he joined the club.

Since then, he has been a fixture in the Cards’ starting line-up and an important part of their recent success, helping them to finish in 12th place for three consecutive seasons in the National League.

Ricketts also won the players’ player and fans player of the season awards during his time with Woking.

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard was delighted with the capture of Ricketts, admitting that the midfielder is a player he has admired for some time.

Speaking to the club’s website, Garrard said: “I’ve known and admired Mark for some time and played against him enough times over the years. He was a player who I didn’t feel we would ever get but things have changed over the last few years. What with our promotion and with Woking’s well publicised budget cuts, I just felt it was certainly worth a phone call to see where the land lay.

“From the moment I met up with Mark and showed him round our facility, he impressed me and he is a natural born leader. I felt quite quickly, that we would be able to find a way to make the deal happen and I’m very glad to say that I was right.

“Again I have to thank our chairman for backing me on this and the supporters should be very happy with our business and summer signings to date. Mark is a quality signing, he is versatile and he will give us a real know how in the centre of the park.”

Ricketts is the second Woking player to join the club this summer, with former QPR winger Bruno Andrade linking up with Luke Garrard’s men last month, having made 43 appearances for the Cards last season.

Braintee Town duo Matt Paine and Kenny Davis are the two other new faces who have moved to Meadow Park, in what has been a busy summer transfer window for Boreham Wood so far.
