There will be a welcome distraction for Boreham Wood on Tuesday night as Luke Garrard’s side travel to face Bishop’s Stortford in the Herts Senior Challenge Cup semi-finals.

This will be the first time the two sides have met since an emotional evening two seasons ago when Wood won the Herts Senior Cup with a penalty shoot-out victory.

Lee Angol gave Wood the early lead with a wonder strike before Michael Richins equalised from a corner after 17 minutes.

After that a war of attrition saw the teams deadlocked right through to a penalty shoot-out after extra time. In the end it took a trio of James Russell penalty saves to bring the cup to Meadow Park.

This season Stortford find themselves comfortably in mid-table in the National League South.

They currently occupy 13th spot after recording a 2-2 draw at Bath City last Saturday when former Wood striker Elliott Buchanan scored twice.

That brace elevates him to the top of the goal scoring tree in the Conference South with 22 for the season.

The Blues have progressed through three rounds of this year’s competition. A 4-0 away win at Leverstock Green was followed by an impressive 3-0 win at cup holders Hemel Hempstead Town. A hard-fought quarter-final was decided by a Mikel Suarez strike to dispatch Ware, setting up this tie.

The winners will face Hitchin Town in the final. Stortford boss Rod Stringer has vowed to field his strongest possible side for the game.
