Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard insists it is only a matter of time before his team start turning their promising performances into wins.

Wood have been left frustrated in the last week after home draws against Lincoln City and most recently against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

But Garrard believes his side are playing well enough and just need to be sharper in the final third to start picking up precious victories in the National League.

The new manager said: “I would be a lot more disappointed if the performances weren’t there. But on the whole they have been fantastic so we just need that final bit to get the results. It is frustrating because we aren’t getting the results. We need to turn the draws into wins and the defeats into points.

“I do believe there is a buzz and a positivity here. I am convinced that if we maintain our current level of performances then we will win a lot more than we lose.”

He added: “I believe we have the quality in the squad to get a run of wins and the performances show the belief in the squad.”

Wood have only managed 23 goals in 24 league matches but Garrard has faith in his strikers’ ability to find the net.

He said: “If you look at the stats for the last few games we have had double figures in terms of shots. We need to be a bit more clinical and take more care around the box. We are creating chances but at the moment we are just not putting them away.

“Scoring goals is an issue at the moment. But I’m more than happy with the three strikers I’ve got here. On any given opportunity I think they will put the ball in the net. We just need to have a bit more care in the final pass or shot.

“I’m very happy with my squad. I have good strength in depth and cover in all areas so I have really good personnel.”

Wood were held to a goalless draw against Tranmere last weekend and the manager was encouraged by his side’s improved defending.

Garrard said: “The performance was good and I was pleased with the clean sheet. It’s just a shame we couldn’t get a goal and a win.

“Defensively we look a lot better since we’ve had a more consistent back four. I just felt Tranmere’s previous result worked against us because after having four goals put past them by Woking they came here with a different game plan to ensure they kept a clean sheet.”
