Luke Garrard is targeting a run in the FA Trophy after being drawn at home to Woking.

Boreham Wood will host National League rivals Woking in the FA Trophy first round.

Wood, by virtue of playing at Step One of the non-league pyramid, join the competition at the first round proper stage this season.

Garrard’s side will face Garry Hill’s Cards at Meadow Park on Saturday, December 12. There is £5,000 in prize money for the winner.

Wood played out a 1-1 draw with Woking at Meadow Park in the league in August.

Garrard said: “It would be huge for the club if we could have a cup run. We want to progress in the competition. It is a big opportunity to get to Wembley.

“It’s a good draw for us having home advantage. But they are a good outfit that have personnel in their squad that I admire.”

The Wood boss continued: “They have to come to us and hopefully playing at home can make all the difference.

“It’s all about consistency of results whether that is in the league or the cup.”

Wood are back in action tomorrow when they make the long trip to Barrow in the National League as the side bid to move clear of danger.

Garrard said: “Barrow have a new manager and they’re doing ok having had a good win over Woking recently.

“I’ve played there many times and they have a very good home record. It is a challenge for the players but I hope it brings out the best in them.”

Wood, who are 20th in the table, have the chance to pull away from trouble with an away win which would be a reward for their recent improved performances.

The manager said: “It would be huge if we could get a win especially with Southport and Torquay [below them] not in action due to the FA Cup.

“We need to put back-to-back wins together.”
