Boreham Wood will be looking to do the double against Tranmere Rovers when the Wirrall outfit make their first ever trip to Meadow Park this Saturday in the National League.

With Luke Garrard's men having completed half of their season’s fixtures they still find themselves in a relegation dog fight, three points and a place above the bottom three.

A superb battling performance during the week against Lincoln City earned Wood a 1-1 draw against another ex-Football League club.

Wood controlled much of the second half after an even period and could consider themselves unlucky not to have picked up a much needed win on the evening.

Back in August Wood stunned Rovers by winning 2-0 up at Prenton Park. It was Rovers’ first defeat of the season and they have bolstered since with a few high-profile additions to the side that currently occupy tenth spot in the table.

Luton Town captain Steve McNulty signed on loan with a view to a permanent move back in October in order to shore up Rovers’ defence.

Manager Gary Brabin also called upon an old teammate of his in experienced striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who joined after being frustrated at warming the bench for Leicester City.

Jamie Vardy's rise from non-league to the England team has hit the headlines recently but Taylor-Fletcher has already been there and done that. The 34-year-old started his career at Northwich Victoria and from there he briefly went on loan to Hull City, joining forces on the playing field with his current manager.

Spells at Leyton Orient, Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town followed before signing for Blackpool. He spent six seasons with the Seasiders, gaining promotion to the Premier League and scoring in their 2-0 Play-Off Final victory against Cardiff City at Wembley before netting their first ever top flight goal in a 4-0 win against Wigan Athletic.

His first action for Rovers was scoring in their 2-0 win at Forest Green Rovers. He has gone on to win the fans’ man-of-the- match accolade in four of his five last appearances.

Versatile forward James Norwood also scored in that game against the Greens, his former side. He is the current joint leading scorer in the National League for Rovers along with Andy Mangan. Both players have seven strikes to their name.

Mangan also joined Rovers at the start of this season, moving from Shrewsbury Town. A fourth attacking option and recent arrival is Ben Tomlinson who joins on loan from Barnet.

Since that win against the Gloucestershire side, Tranmere have suffered a dip in form.

Rovers went out the FA Cup to Lincoln City in a fourth qualifying round replay at the end of October and they have won just one of their last four in the National League – 2-1 win against Guiseley at Prenton Park – since.

Defeats on the road at the hands of Woking and Lincoln City and a loss to Dover Athletic on their own patch have undermined what had been a strong start to the season.
