Boreham Wood have signed a third member of Barnet's title-winning team of last year by announcing the capture of centre-back David Stephens.

The 24-year-old left the Bees in the summer after failing to agree a new contract following promotion from the Conference and joins Charlie MacDonald and Conor Clifford at Meadow Park.

New Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard told the club's website: “We are trying to get the squad balanced and at a level that it can compete for 90 minutes in every game.

"David will give me that defensive balance through his strength, his discipline and his winner's mentality. But we have to get him fit first.

“I will also look to complete one more bit of business next week, with perhaps one player coming in and one going out on loan.

"If I can achieve that, then barring injury or call backs, I’m happy to work with this squad until January and give it the chance to impress and improve."

Formerly of Norwich City, Lincoln City and Hibernian, Stephens joined the Bees in 2012 and was Player of the Year in two of his three seasons at the club.

In total Stephens made 144 appearances for Barnet, the last of which came on the final day of last season as they clinched the Conference title for a record-breaking third time.

He had previously spent two seasons in the SPL with Hibs but was not a regular for the Edinburgh side, prompting a return to England.
