The Kent Coast beckons on Bank Holiday Monday as Boreham Wood make the trip to Crabble to face old foes Dover Athletic in the National League.

This is the second time Wood have emulated the promotion success of our hosts just one season after their achievements.

The two sides recently spent four seasons together in the Conference South until the Whites gained promotion two seasons ago via the play-offs.

In Wood's first season in the Conference South they lost both games to Dover, but recovered to go three seasons unbeaten against the Kent side, winning three and drawing three of their league encounters.

That was until Dover's promotion in May 2014 when they overcame Sutton United and then Ebbsfleet United to reach the pinnacle of non-league football, joining Champions Eastleigh - whom they finished seventeen points behind - in the Conference.

It was promotion to the recently rebranded National League for the Whites at the third time of asking via the play-offs.

Their first appearance in the knockout stage came in 2009/10 as they were aiming for a third promotion in as many seasons. Midway through that run their path crossed Boreham Wood's as in 2008/09 they romped to the Isthmian Premier Division title.

Having narrowly lost 3-2 at Meadow Park, Wood were still fighting off the lingering threat of relegation with four matches to play when they visited the Crabble to face the already-crowned Champions in early April.

A guard of honour was sportingly formed by the Wood prior to kick off, but the pleasantries ended there with the majority of the 1,400 fans who had turned up to watch their side lift the title instead witnessing a 2-1 Wood victory.

The Whites, managed by Chris Kinnear had a fantastic first season at the top table of non-league football last season, posting an eighth-place finish whilst embarking upon an FA Cup Run which was only halted by Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

This time around Dover are currently in tenth spot and are unbeaten at home, with their only defeat coming 2-1 at new-boys Barrow on the opening day.

Kinnear has strengthened his defences with the loan signing of former Charlton Athletic full-back Aswad Thomas. The 26-year-old had previously spent two years at Grimsby Town and has experience with Braintree Town and Woking.

Winger-cum-full-backJayden Gibbs, brother of Arsenal and England left-back Kieron, also made the move to Crabble over the summer after leaving Aldershot Town.

Meanwhile, central defender Sam Magri is another addition, the 21-year-old defender enjoying regular first-team action after stints with Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth.

Striker Ricky Miller moved from Luton Town and utility player Jack Parkinson, who turned down a move to Leyton Orient from Maidstone United, complete Dover's pre-season signings.
