Boreham Wood head to table-toppers Eastleigh tonight full of confidence after tasting victory in their first ever game at this level on Saturday, beating FC Halifax Town 3-1 at Meadow Park.

A bumper crowd of 701 people saw Ian Allinson’s men get their season off to a flyer, and the Wood will face a sterner test still when they travel to the Silverlake Stadium this evening with the Spitfires top of the National League table after a 4-0 victory at Southport on Saturday.

The two last met on the final day of the 2013/2014 season. And despite Eastleigh already being crowed champions, the Wood ruined their promotion party with a 1-0 win.

Tonight’s hosts have brought in six players this summer, including former Championship man Lee Cook from Barnet.

As well as Cook, Ross Lafayette and Andy Drury have joined from Luton Town, Joe Partington from AFC Bournemouth, Josh Payne from Woking, and most recently Dan Harding from Nottingham and Forest.

Harding, who-won-back to back promotions with Southampton four years ago, has struggled to hold onto a starting place at Nottingham Forest having played just 61 games in three years.

he 31-year-old will be playing well below his station after deciding to drop down from the Football League.

The Spitfires will be looking to build on their remarkable fifth place finish last season in which they unfortunately lost in the Playoff Semi Final to Grimsby going down 5-1 on aggregate, to deny them of a place in the Football League.

The Wood have also made six summer signings. Most notably, former Chelsea youngster Conor Clifford from Southend United.

Scott Doe and Luke Howell have joined on free transfers from Dagenham & Redbridge. Harry Crawford from Dartford, Charlie MacDonald from Barnet and Danny Woodards, who was a free agent after being released by Trammere Rovers this summer.

Boreham Wood were promoted to the National League through the Conference South play-offs and manager Ian Allinson was delighted with his side's opening-day win.

He said: “It’s the start we wanted and it’s a start that’s pleasing for everyone.

“We should have been a bit more confident but overall to get the three points is brilliant."

Eastleigh comfortably saw off ten-man Southport in a totally dominant performance with goals coming from Jai Reason, Jamie Turley, Ben Strevens and James Constable.
