National League new-boys Boreham Wood will kick off their pre-season preparations tomorrow (Saturday) at home to St. Albans City.

Wood, who were promoted to the National League via the Conference South Play-Offs last season, will feel confident of defeating a side they beat home and away in the league last season.

And the game will give Wood fans their first opportunity to see summer signing Dan Woodwards, who joined on a free transfer this summer.

The 31-year old defender has racked up over 200 appearances in the Football League during spells at Crewe Alexandra, Milton Keynes Dons, Bristol Rovers and Tranmere Rovers.

Manager Ian Allinson is still hopeful that he might be able to bring in more additions before the new season begins in earnest at FC Halifax Town next month.

St. Albans City have brought in three players over the summer, including Jack Lampe - formerly of West Ham United - and will be looking to get their pre-season on track after defeats at home to Dagenham & Redbridge (4-0) and Premier League outfit Watford (4-0) in their opening two games this week.

The game begins at 3pm at Meadow Park. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
