Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson accepts tomorrow’s trip to Bromley is a “massive match” but insists their top-of-the-table clash will not decide the title.

The Conference South leaders travel to their closest challengers this weekend with only one point between the sides. But the Wood boss does not think the match will necessarily decide which side wins automatic promotion.

Allinson said: “Whatever happens on Saturday, I don’t think it it’s going to define which side wins the league.

“Basingstoke Town (third) are still going to have a say in it while Havant & Waterlooville and Whitehawk could also have a chance if they win all their remaining games.

“If we win, it’s one step nearer our target but if we draw then it brings Basingstoke right into it. There are lots of permutations involved and still four matches left so nothing will be decided.”

With just four games remaining in the league for Allinson’s side, there is little margin for error as they visit their rivals for automatic promotion.

The Wood boss said: “It’s a massive game but it’s one we all want to be involved in. Everyone is looking forward to it and it’s one that we believe we can win.

“We have no fears going into it and everyone is on top of their game as recent results have shown.”

Wood returned to the top of the table after beating Hemel Hempstead Town 1-0 last weekend. The side leapfrogged Bromley after they conceded a last-minute equaliser in their 2-2 draw at Bath City.

It leaves Allinson’s side one point clear of Bromley but tomorrow’s opponents have a game in hand.

The sides met back in August at Meadow Park and Graeme Montgomery’s opener was cancelled out by Danny Waldren’s goal in a 1-1 draw.

There is so much more at stake this weekend at Hayes Lane with both teams fighting it out for a place in the Conference.

Allinson said: “If we didn’t finish the season off in first it would probably be disappointing. But I don’t think it’s the right time to be thinking about that because all our focus is on the Bromley game.

“We are capable of winning our next four games and if do that then we know we will be champions. But we also still need two wins to be sure of the play-offs so that shows how tight the league is.”

Wood had to work hard for their win at home to Hemel. There were relatively few chances for either side in a match which was a dress rehearsal for the Herts Senior Cup final on April 14.

The winning goal came just before the half hour mark when Junior Morias fired past goalkeeper Laurie Walker.

Following the Bromley game, Wood play their final home game of the season on Easter Monday when they face Sutton United.

The match has been chosen as the club’s designated fixture to raise charity for one of Borehamwood’s longest running youth clubs, the Brookside Boys Club.

For the second year running, Wood have secured £2,000 from the FA, from money raised from the Charity Shield after reaching the first round of the FA Cup last season.

The £2,000 donation will be made to Dick and Vera Clarke, who after 50 years still run Brookside Boys Club, at half time.

All proceeds from the programme sales on the day will also go directly to the Boys Club. There will also be other fundraising initiatives on the day.

Wood chairman Danny Hunter said: “The Boys Club was a big part of my life when I was growing up. For it to still be going strong after all these years, is testament to all the volunteers who over the years have been outstanding. Two people though in Dick and Vera Clarke have been mainstays of the club.”

Hunter continued: “To be able to help them, is in truth an honour for me and the least I can do. Their community spirit is still as strong as ever and to do what they do when in they are both in their eighties, is in truth quite staggering.”

Anyone who cannot attend but who wishes to make a donation should contact Charlie Hunter at the club on 0208 953 5097.
