Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson insists his side are not feeling the pressure of being Conference South leaders.

Wood extended their lead to six points after Saturday’s convincing 3-0 win at home to Hayes & Yeading United.

It has since been clipped to just three points by Bromley but Allinson is adamant his side are not feeling the strain.

Speaking after their latest victory, Allinson told the club website: “We will be keeping our feet firmly on the ground and picking up maximum points whilst top of the table puts pressure on the other sides.

“We are not feeling the pressure whilst we stay six points clear. That is for the others to feel and we now go on to face Staines Town here in a week’s time.”

Wood’s win extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven games and underlined the side deserve to be taken seriously as promotion contenders.

It took the hosts just 14 minutes to take control of the contest with the opening goal.

Matty Whichelow cut in from the right hand side and his delivery was flicked on by Junior Morias into the path of Lee Angol. The striker celebrated winning the Conference South player of the month gong by curling his shot past keeper Calum Kitscha.

The hosts dominated and came close to doubling their lead after a free-kick from Graeme Montgomery released Whichelow but he drove over the bar.

It took United 25 minutes to muster their first effort on target but it was a tame shot from Matty Harriott which was aimed straight at keeper James Russell.

But it was still Boreham Wood that looked the more dangerous side and they went close again when Morias set up Whichelow and the former Watford attacker’s strike was kept out superbly by the keeper.

The hosts threatened early on in the second half when Whichelow sent in a low free-kick which was parried by Kitscha as Luke Garrard attempted to follow in.

Allinson’s side made it 2-0 just before the hour mark. Morias’ fierce strike was parried by the keeper and Whichelow reacted quickest to fire home the rebound effort.

Wood sealed a comprehensive home win when the visitors conceded a penalty for a handball.

Angol stepped up and slotted his effort past the keeper to ensure Wood put the game beyond Phil Babb’s side.

Allinson’s side will be heavy favourites to continue their form this weekend when they host bottom side Staines Town.

But their record against them is poor recently having lost to them back in August.

This extended their run to 12 league games without a win against the Swans.
