Boreham Wood missed the chance to stretch the gap over the Skrill South relegation spots to nine points as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Farnborough.

Wood are 16th in the table, seven points clear of Gosport Borough in 20th with 11 matches to play.

Farnborough opened the scoring with a 24th minute effort by JJ Hooper, before a superb Mario Noto free-kick grabbed Wood a deserved point.

Wood started well and controlled the majority of the game.

Half chances came and went before Kudos Oyenuga showed great control in the penalty area, hitting a low curling shot that tested Kevin Scriven in the Boro goal.

Oyenuga threatened again soon after. His attempt for a Graham Montgomery cross beat Scriven, but was cleared off the line by former Wood loan player Matthew Ball.

However, Farnborough struck against the run of play with Hooper exploiting a gap in the defence and finishing well.

After the break, Wood searched for the equaliser with fluid attacking play.

They went close with a Montgomery flick, which was well saved by Scriven.

Oyenuga won a free-kick 25 yards out and Noto curled his effort around the wall and found the left hand corner of the net to give Wood a deserved equaliser.

The game remained to be played at a fast pace following the goal.

Sam Cox was playing well in midfield while Junior Morias was a constant thorn in the side of the Boro defence.

Wood kept the pressure on until the final whistle and almost nicked it at the death.

Substitutes Loick Pires and Lee Angol combined with some fancy footwork and drew a good save from Scriven.

Wood have a game in hand over Farnborough and Chelmsford City who both still have to visit Meadow Park before the end of the campaign.

Securing a point was important for Wood especially after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Gosport Borough on Saturday.

Their lacklustre start was punished in the sixth minute with Justin Bennett finishing past James Russell in the Wood net.

Bennett’s goal equalled a club record that had previously stood for 35 years.

Bennett then broke the Gosport Borough record just eight minutes into the second half, with his 193rd for the club.

He passed a weak challenge, before firing in from 20 yards. The FA Trophy finalists seemed to be coasting.

Ian Allinson chose to introduce Morias on the 65-minute mark and was rewarded with a consolation goal.

Morias, on loan from Wycombe Wanderers, got on the end of a Matty Whichelow cross from the byline, but it was too little too late.
