Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson insists there were plenty of positives to take from their 2-1 defeat at Conference South leaders Bromley.

Wood pushed ten man Bromley all the way on Saturday and Allinson was left to rue a glaring miss from Callum Reynolds in the second half as the visitors lost narrowly.

Allinson told the club website: “It was a game that we thought we could get something from even before the sending off.

“Callum’s miss was for me the turning point. We did not defend well for either goal, but my players all put a good shift in.”

Allinson added: “I can take a lot of positives from the game save for our lack of cutting edge in the box.

“It is not a disaster but it leaves us with a procession of six pointers coming up if we are to get out of the relegation fight we find ourselves in.”

Bromley got off to a fast start and the table-toppers opened the scoring after just 12 minutes. Ali Fuseini played a pass through for top scorer Bradley Goldberg and he pounced to send a low shot past James Russell.

It got even worse for Boreham Wood just six minutes later when the hosts extended their lead.

The visitors failed to deal with a cross and Pierre Joseph-Dubois took full advantage as he poked the ball past the Wood keeper.

Bromley were reduced to ten men after captain Rob Swaine was dismissed with 65 minutes remaining.

Junior Morais, who has extended his loan from Wycombe for another month, was hauled to the ground early on, which resulted in a yellow card for Swaine. He was given a second booking when he clipped the heels of Kudos Oyenuga.

Mario Noto had an opportunity to bring Wood back into the match but his shot was straight at Joe Welch.

The hosts were still looking dangerous going forward, despite being down to ten men, as they tested Russell through Fuseini’s strike.

But Allinson’s side were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when Morais set up Oyenuga and he struck a shot which cannoned off the post.

The visitors stepped up a gear and the second half and started to take control of the contest.

Wood spurned a glorious opportunity when Graeme Montgomery sent in a free-kick which fell to Reynolds at the far post but he managed to send his effort over from three yards out.

Allinson’s side continued to stretch the home defence and had efforts through Luke Garrard and Montgomery but their shots were blocked.

The visitors finally got the goal they deserved with 20 minutes remaining. Morais released Garrard and he calmly sent his shot into the net to give Wood hope.

It was nearly 3-1 but the home side were denied when Goldberg’s effort was cleared off the line.

Wood had one late chance to salvage a point against the leaders but Matty Whichelow’s shot flew just past the post.

The results leaves Allinson’s side just one point above the relegation zone.

Wood face a crucial home match against third bottom Tonbridge Angels tomorrow afternoon.
