Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson believes his players must treat every game like a cup final in order to move away from the Skrill South relegation zone.
Wood have struggled this season and currently sit 17th in the table. They have taken just 18 points from their 19 matches but Allinson’s side claimed a morale-boosting 2-0 win at Whitehawk on Saturday.
A brace from on loan Arsenal winger Anthony Jeffrey was enough for the visitors to secure an important victory against a fellow struggler.
The game was in doubt prior to kick-off due to heavy rain but Allinson was pleased his side executed their plan to “win ugly”.
Speaking to the club website, he said: “We were surprised the game went ahead and needed to change our tactics to cope with the strong wind and rain and the surface. We went out to win ugly and use our physicality.
“It worked tremendously well and in young Anthony Jeffrey we had the match winner. We have not been playing badly of late but have needlessly dropped points.”
He added: “This was a massive win and we need to treat every game as a cup final now to get out of our relegation berth.”
