Boreham Wood have strengthened their squad after signing former Tottenham youngster Sam Cox.
The 22-year-old midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell from Barnet at Wood during the 2011-12 campaign when he was rewarded with the player of the season award. Cox made 24 appearances for Ian Allinson’s side scoring twice.
Wood tried to get him back last season following his release from Barnet but he ended up moving to Hayes & Yeading United.
Cox skippered the team and made 37 appearances for United but has opted to join Wood this year.
Allinson’s side made an encouraging start to the Conference South season after picking up four points from their first two games.
An opening 2-0 win at Tonbridge Angels was followed by a 2-2 draw at home to Bishop's Stortford on Monday night.
Matt Ball joined the club on loan until January from Stevenage last week and he made an immediate impact in their victory on Saturday. The 20-year-old scored both goals to fire the visitors to the win at Tonbridge.
The Northern Ireland Under-21 player netted the opener after 16 minutes and doubled his tally in the second half from close range.
His impressive form did not stop there as he also scored in Monday’s draw against Bishop’s Stortford.
The away side took the lead but this was cancelled out when summer signing Donovan Simmonds headed in Mark Jones’ cross.
Wood made it 2-1 after Ball hit a superb volley into the net but the hosts were denied three points after a Stortford equaliser.
Allinson’s team face a double header over the Bank Holiday weekend with a home game against Hayes & Yeading tomorrow [Saturday] before travelling to Staines Town on Monday.
