Bad weather decimated the opening weekend of the Hertfordshire cricket season, with rain affecting more than 50 matches in the Saracens Herts League.

Radlett Cricket Club's first team travelled to Winchmore Hill for a warm-up game on Saturday and were reduced to 137-9 when the match had to be abandoned due to heavy rain.

Tomorrow their league season begins in earnest with a Home Counties Premier League Division Two East fixture against Hemel Hempstead at Cobden Hill at 11.30am.

Radlett II played their season opener at Cobden Hill, lost the toss and put opponents Letchworth II into bat.

The visitors reached 90-5 before play was abandoned in the 23rd over.

Tomorrow Radlett II travel to Cockfosters for a Saracens Herts League (SHL) Division 3 game.

Radlett's third team did not fare any better, with their game cancelled after 50 overs of play after they had reached a score of 163-5. They take on Millhillians tomorrow in a SHL Division 5 match.

Radlett IV were the only Cobden Hill team able to complete a match.

Having been asked to bat, Radlett set a total of 178-5 in 45 overs, but their bowlers were unable to contain their opponents, Hertford III, who reached their target of 179-5 in just 36.3 overs.

Elsewhere, Shenley Village beat Rickmansworth away in SHL Division 4 and Shenley Village II lost out to Waltham Cross Rosedale II in their Division 9 match.

Shenley Village III beat West Herts III in SHL Division 11. West Herts III set a total of 240-3 and in reply Shenley Village II scored 244-5 in 34 overs.

Elstree's SHL Division 7 game against Old Cholmeleians was called off because of rain.

Elstree II completed their match but were comprehensively beaten by Old Cholmeleians II who reached Elstree's total of 70 all out in just 16 overs without the loss of a single wicket.

London Colney's first and second team matches were also washed out because of rain.
