Hot on the heels of the London Marathon, Boreham Wood Athletics Club is preparing for its annual half-marathon and fun run.

The club, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, will be holding the event on Sunday, June 25.

The fun run is open to people of all abilities (minimum age is seven years old) and the half-marathon is open to anyone aged over 17 and fit enough to compete.

Since the race was first staged in 1989 participants have raised thousands of pounds for charity through sponsorship.

Runners interested in taking part in this year's event whether inspired by the recent London Marathon, club competition or a desire to get fit should contact race secretary Pauline Poole on 020 8207 2852 and ask for an entry form.

The half-marathon, which covers 13.1 miles, and the fun run, approximately three miles in distance, will start and finish at the Hawksmoor Centre in Potters Lane, Borehamwood.

There are individual and team prizes for men and women, young and old, in addition to medals for all finishers.

Entry for the half marathon costs £8 for members of AAA affiliated athletics clubs and £10 for non-members and entry to the fun run costs £4.50.
