THE boss of Boreham Wood FC is so chuffed at how his team is performing right now that he even relishes the prospect of playing two games on the SAME day.
On Tuesday, Wood will put out two first teams for two cup ties, in the Isthmian League Cup and the Hertfordshire Senior Cup.
It is surely enough to boggle the minds of Premier League bosses who moan about fixture congestion.
But Allinson told the Borehamwood Times that he is relaxed about it.
“We have a big squad this year and I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to find out how good we really are,” he said.
“Everyone will get 90 minutes and we can look to some of the younger players.”
Teenagers Inih Effiong, Jay Brett and Jon Clements could all feature at Wealdstone in the League Cup or in round one of the Herts Senior Cup at Royston.
Allinson insisted that he is taking the competitions seriously.
“Both are very important to us because we want to progress as far as possible,” he said.
The clash has arisen because the club are desperate to avoid fixture congestion later on in the season.
Today Wood sit in third place in the table, after four wins and a draw from their last five games.
The scheduled league game tomorrow (Saturday) against Tooting & Mitcham United has been postponed, as Tooting are involved in the FA Cup.
But the cup games keep coming for Wood.
They will now play Hungerford Town in round three of the FA Trophy at Meadow Park on November 21.
Jamie Richards’ hat-trick against Slough Town, in a 3-2 win, on Saturday put Wood into the draw. Go to www.borehamwoodtimes.co.uk/sport for John Mead's match report.
Allinson said: “It was good for Jamie to get his hat-trick. He’s been struggling for form, but it all came together for him and that’s good.
“We need to pick and choose which forwards we play on the day, as we want to keep them on their toes. Jamie was out of favour, but he’s taken his chance.”
This month Wood are set to play up to eight games, so many other players will have their chance too.
Allinson said: “At the end of the month the chairman and I will sit down and discuss where we are. He’s supported my decision to keep this big squad together, he’s behind what we do. November is going to be a busy month.”
