Boreham Wood picked up their first win of pre-season as they claimed a 1-0 victory over Hitchin Town on Tuesday night.

The midweek success came on the back of a 2-1 loss to a strong Brentford side last Friday - a defeat which saw Morgan Ferrier get the Wood goal.

Ferrier would once again show his quality in the defeat of Hitchin as he scored the games only goal with a calmly converted first-half penalty.

The Wood made two changes from the side which started against the Bees as Jamal Fyfield and Angelo Balanta came in for Manny Parry and Connor Smith.

It was Town who made the brighter start, however, and they forced a smart stop from a trialist keeper when Michael King volleyed at goal.

Wood then had an effort of their own as Kieran Murtagh had a shot which called the Hitchin goalkeeper into action with a low drive.

They were ahead soon after when Ferrier was brought down in the box by Kieran McCaffrey and dusted himself down to score his second penalty in the last two games.

The home side reacted well to the set back and Ezra Forde was put through on goal, only to fire wide with just the keeper to beat.

It was Wood who finished the half the stronger of the two sides, though, and almost doubled their lead when Ferrier saw a low shot saved.

A host of half-time changes from both sides disrupted the flow of the game somewhat and the second period was a less entertaining affair.

Neither side managed to create any clear cut chances and a low cross from Sorba Thomas, which was slashed clear by Hitchin, was as close as Wood came.

Nonetheless, they held out for a resolute win which sets them up well for the visit of Arsenal on Saturday.

The game promises to be a entertaining one, with a host of internationally recognised Arsenal stars set to take to the Meadow Park ground.

The Gunners have confirmed that Unai Emery will use a strong squad for the game, which will be his first in charge of the club.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey are all expected to play some part in the friendly meeting.

The game against Wood's Premier League neighbours is due to kick-off at 3pm.
