Boreham Wood ended a five game National League winless run in emphatic fashion as they hammered Maidstone United 4-0 on Tuesday.

The hosts struggled to compete with the Wood throughout a powerful performance from Luke Garrard’s side.

Kane Smith opened the scoring and a Dan Holman brace made it 3-0 to the Wood at the break.

Blair Turgott wrapped up the scoring 13 minutes from time as he converted from the penalty spot.

The win leaves Wood ninth in the table and they are just a point outside the National League play-off places.

Bruno Andrade’s absence meant Holman and Shaun Jeffers led the line and repeatedly caused United problems with their movement.

The first chance took a matter of moments to arrive, but fell to the hosts as Joe Pigott headed wide from a corner.

Wood responded well and Holman went close with two chances soon after, notably when seeing a curling effort well saved.

Wood wouldn’t have to wait long for the go-ahead goal to arrive as wing-back Smith drove forward in the 13th minute and saw a looping cross fortuitously find the net.

Wood remained on the front foot and saw their overall dominance tell with five minutes of the half to play.

A defensive slip allowed Holman to race clear and he kept his cool to slot home and make it 2-0.

Maidstone would have been happy to take a two-goal deficit into the break, but they were afforded no such luxury.

Once again Holman was the man to cause the hurt as he controlled Jeffers’ long ball on his chest and sumptuously smashed home.

With a healthy lead to defend, the second half lacked the intensity of the first for Wood as they looked to hold what they had.

The visitors did, however, manage to extend their lead to 4-0 as the game approached it’s final throws.

Turgott broke into the box and was hauled down by his marker and confidently converted the resulting spot-kick to seal the rout.

Wood will look to take the confidence gained from the victory into a meeting with Woking at Meadow Park tomorrow.

Woking sit just a point and a place above them in the league ahead of the encounter between the two play-off hopefuls.
