Boreham Wood were left to rue a controversial refereeing decision on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by Guiseley.

The Wood looked to have taken the lead as early as the sixth minute as a corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble.

The ball broke to Ricky Shakes and his strike took two deflections before appearing to cross the line.

However, Wood were left infuriated as the referee waved away their appeals for a go ahead goal and parity remained intact.

Wood continued to have the better of the game and a strong run down the right hand side and delivered a dangerous cross which picked out Femi Ilesanmi.

His shot was well struck but flew wide of the target as Wood toiled for a breakthrough goal.

They were frustrated further moments later when Bruno Andrade’s well-struck half-volley forced a fine save from the Guiseley keeper.

The visitors came alive with 10 minutes of the second half remaining and Grant Smith was forced into a save late in the first period.

They carried their threat into the second half and Smith had to be alert when collecting a low cross shortly after the restart.

In a game of few chances, Wood had a number in the final 15 minutes, with Jason Williams going particularly close as he fired just over the bar after cutting in form the wing.

In truth, a draw as a fair result as neither team did enough to warrant taking all three points.

Wood now turn their attention to a league meeting with Lincoln City on Tuesday night.
