Boreham Wood suffered a fourth National League defeat of the season after losing 2-0 at Lincoln City on Tuesday.

Luke Garrard’s side made a promising start to the match and Angelo Balanta was denied an early breakthrough by a decent save from home goalkeeper Paul Farman.

Wood shot stopper Grant Smith was called into action when he kept out Harry Anderson’s curling strike.

The Imps spurned a good chance when the ball was only cleared as far as Sean Raggatt but he volleyed over the crossbar.

But the hosts grabbed the opening goal deep into injury time in the first half when a cross into the area was not palmed to safety by Smith.

Lincoln sent the ball into the area and Nathan Arnold drilled his shot into the corner of the net.

Wood were forced into a change at the break after Ricky Shakes’ hamstring injury forced him off, with Anthony Jeffrey coming on in his place.

The home side threatened to extend their lead through Matt Rhead’s header, his effort forcing a fine save from Smith.

Lincoln doubled their lead 17 minutes from time when Femi Ilesnami failed to clear the danger.

Rhead’s first touch was excellent and his shot took a deflection off Matt Paine and flew over Smith for the second goal.

The visitors tried to get back in the match but the closest they came was a Danny Woodards strike which was cleared off the line.

The defeat leaves Wood 11th in the table heading into this weekend’s home game against Woking.
