Chairman Danny Hunter says Boreham Wood’s survival act is a magic moment he will never forget.

He says celebrating with the fans and players after the 3-0 win at Welling, which secured their safety in English football’s fifth division, is something he will savour for ever.

Just weeks ago his club looked doomed after successive defeats against fellow strugglers Halifax and Southport, but they pulled it out of the fire with three straight wins when they needed them most.

Wood went into last Saturday’s game at bottom-club Welling knowing a win would guarantee their safety and they delivered in style.

They took the lead through Kevin Lokko’s own goal and doubled their lead when Luke Howell curled a shot in before Clovis Kamdjo headed a third just after the hour mark to get the party going.

Hunter said: “I want all our supporters to know just how proud of them I am and I can’t emphasise that enough.

"We’d been written off all season, we’d often messed things up and been the masters of our own demise but when I asked the club to really come together, to believe and to unite in the last few weeks, it most certainly did that and it did it in abundance.

“Our staff and our supporters got in their cars, they got on the coaches, they got on the minibuses and they boarded the trains.

"They were great at Aldershot, fantastic against Guiseley and turned Welling into a Wood home game. To witness our dressing room, our supporters, my staff and our town celebrating together was a magic moment I’ll never forget.

“I cannot describe how I felt at the final whistle to be the proud chairman of Boreham Wood. Every problem, every headache, every sleepless night and every extra pound note I’ve spent over the years was worth it.”
