Former Chelsea midfielder Conor Clifford has committed his future to Boreham Wood by extending his contract with the club until the end of next season.

The 24-year-old Dubliner, who joined the National League new-boys after his contract with Southend United expired, has made 27 appearances this scoring once.

Speaking to the club's website, manager Luke Garrard said: “Conor is a big part of my changing room and my future plans.

"We have ambitions at this club to not only move up the table this season but to get ourselves into a position where success becomes an expectation and not a dream.

"For that to happen I first have to sign players with that mindset and Conor gives me that in abundance.

"I have no thoughts on relegation with this squad and I’m putting building blocks in place already for next season."

Director of Football Ian Allinson added: “The chairman has done great for us to get this bit of business over the line and I must say with the minimum of fuss.

"Trust me when I say that Conor is as good as any in this division and he can certainly play higher.

“We are developing all the time as a club, as a squad and as a team.

"This signing tells our dressing room and our supporters that of course we need to concentrate on safety in the next 17 games but we intend to push on again in the summer, having learnt loads this season about the level."

Clifford won the National League on loan at Barnet last season but wasn't offered a contract by the Bees and instead opted to join Wood after leaving League Two Play-Off Final winners Southend.
