National League new-boys Boreham Wood will hope to capitalise on the poor form of promotion-hopefuls Grimsby Town as the Mariners make their first ever visit to Meadow Park on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Last season’s beaten National League Play-Off finalists are without a victory in four since their opening three games, which yielded two wins and a draw.

And Wood will be encouraged by their own start which has seen a win on the road at Tranmere Rovers to leave them in mid-table.

Recent defeats against Macclesfield and Altrincham have left Grimsby hovering just above the Wood in 11th place with two points more.

Town have been at National League level for four seasons following their relegation from the Football League in 2010, but still have a huge fanbase.

A large away following is expected on Saturday too. The Cleethorpes side took 1,800 supporters to Lincoln City in their last away trip and drew 1-1 despite playing more than half the match with ten men.

Boreham Wood will be looking for their first win in three after a narrow loss at Dover Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday and a home draw with Woking on Saturday.

Grimsby Town are a settled side, with keeper James McKeown, defender Shaun Pearson and midfielder Craig Disley having played over 500 games for the side managed by Paul Hurst, who himself is embarking upon his fifth season in charge.

There is League experience in bundles throughout the side with the exception of exciting striker Omar Bogle.

Formerly of Solihull Moors, Bogle joined Town at the start of this season after finishing as the Conference North's top scorer with 29 goals last season. He has taken to life in The National League with ease, netting four goals to date.

Another striker with four goals so far is Padraig Amond, who after a successful career in his native Ireland went on to play for Pacos De Ferreira in the Primeira Liga in Portugal, before gaining Football League experience at both Accrington Stanley and Morecambe.

Wood supporters are reminded to buy their tickets in advance for this game with a big attendance expected at Meadow Park.
