Boreham Wood midfielder Scott Thomas has agreed to join local rivals Saint Albans City of the National League South, becoming the second player to make the move after defender Ben Martin.

Thomas departs having only spent a season at the Wood, in which he helped the Meadow Park club gain promotion into the National League for the first time in its history.

And boss Ian Allinson admitted he was disappointed to see the former Chesham United midfielder leave the club.

He told the club website: “Scott is a player that I can only describe as my Mr. Dependable.

“Scott’s like Ronseal, he’ll do exactly what it says on the tin. He’ll rat, he’ll get you playing, he’ll protect the back four and he’ll do the jobs that don’t get the plaudits but every good team will need a Thomo.

“Losing Scott was a very difficult decision for me but as I was not sure how much game time he would get, I felt it only right after bringing in the new additions, I felt it was only right to allow him to talk to St. Albans.

"They’re a good club, he knows a lot of the players and he’ll play most weeks if he maintains his form.”

Chairman Danny Hunter added: “Everyone at Boreham Wood FC would like to thank Scott for his fantastic contribution to our club.

"He is genuinely a great guy, he’s a truly underestimated footballer but he will always be remembered here, as being a huge part of the squad and team that won us promotion to the National League.”
