Boreham Wood defender Ben Nunn believes the team have nothing to fear next season and can hold their own in the National League.

The Wood will be playing in the fifth tier of English football for the first time after their Conference South Play-Off Final win over Whitehawk last month.

However Nunn is not worried about staying in the division and insists there is no reason why the club cannot set their sights higher.

He said: “The management and the club goal will probably be to stay in the league but for me that is a given and I want to kick on.

“If we can get the right players in then there is no reason why we can’t do well.

“As a team, we have more togetherness than anyone else so we can have a good season.”

The defender added: “It will be a new challenge for us but if we can get in the right quality we’ve definitely got enough about us to do well.”

Nunn’s campaign was an unusual one after he played the first ten matches before going travelling for five months in September.

The right-back went to Asia and Australia, where he kept himself fit, before returning in February for the side’s run-in and helped the side win promotion.

The 25-year-old said: “It was brilliant. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

“I just wanted to help the club get promoted when I come back in any way I could and it went well apart from getting sent off in my first game back.”

Reflecting on the club’s achievement, Nunn said: “It was amazing. I still can’t believe it’s happened and everyone was on cloud nine. You just couldn’t make it up.”

Nunn believes the management team of Ian Allinson and assistant Luke Garrard deserve the credit for the club’s success last season praising their attention to detail.

He said: “Our success is down to Ian and Luke. Every game we knew exactly what we needed to do. We just turned up and knew all the hard work and preparation had been done by them.”

While some players may be dreading the prospect of returning to pre-season training after their summer holiday, Nunn is not one of them and feels fresh and ready to go after his extended break last season.

Nunn, who will be available for the whole of next season, said: “For me I’ve had five months off during the season so I’m feeling ready to go. But I may not be saying that after the bleep test on Monday!”

Wood have added another friendly next month with a game against St Albans City next month.

Allinson’s side will take on the Saints at Meadow Park on Saturday, July 11.

It is currently scheduled to be the newly-promoted club’s first warm-up game of the summer with home matches against Luton Town, Brentford, an Arsenal XI and Ebbsfleet United following afterwards.
