Newly-promoted Boreham Wood will face Arsenal during pre-season as they build towards their first campaign in the National League.

Ian Allinson’s side have continued the recent tradition of facing the Gunners during the summer and will host an Arsenal XI on Saturday, July 25.

Wood’s first arranged friendly at Meadow Park will be against League Two Luton Town on Tuesday, July 14 with a 7.30pm kick-off.

The team will then host Championship club Brentford on Sunday, July 19.

Wood’s pre-season preparations continue with their marquee game against Arsenal before hosting Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday, July 28 (7.30pm kick-off).

The club’s early bird season tickets are still on sale until Sunday.

Adults can watch 23 league games for £180 while concessions are £100.

Primary school age fans can also get a free season ticket with a £10 admin charge.

Tickets can be purchased in person, online at www.bwfcboxoffice.co.uk or by calling the club on 0208 9535097.

Anyone purchasing an adult or concession season ticket before Sunday will also receive a free ticket to the Arsenal friendly.

Wood’s achievements on the pitch have resulted in Ricky Shakes and Sam Cox both being called into Guyana’s World Cup qualifying training camp.

Winger Shakes is no stranger to international football having played for the Golden Jaguars on ten occasions previously, his last appearance coming three years ago.

Shakes made his international debut back in 2011 in a 2-0 win in the Bahamas. The first of his two international goals came in his second appearance during a 1-1 draw against Bermuda.

Joining Shakes at the training camp is midfielder Cox, who will be looking to impress head coach Jamaal Shabazz following his first call up to the national squad.

Wood boss Allinson said: “As a club we’ve come a long way in recent years and these lads have helped us on that journey.

“The whole club from the chairman to kit manager are thrilled for both Ricky and Sam.

“We wish them well as international recognition at any level is fantastic but in these two, it is just reward for players who work hard, are dedicated and as such their talent deserves to be recognised.”

The Wood pair will be hoping to force their way into Shabazz’s side for their June 10 and 14 World Cup qualifiers against St Vincent and the Grenadines.

In other news, Boreham Wood have announced their further education sports contract and sponsorship deal with Barnet and Southgate College has been extended for another three years.

Wood chairman Danny Hunter said: “In simple terms the college will be our principle education provider and main sponsor for the next three years.

“The agreement will allow expansion and we hope to have in excess of 500 student/players next season and that takes a lot of organising.

“Principal David Byrne and myself are very happy that the contract covers, three college sites, two training facilities and allows for increased transportation investment.

“It also allows for a wider range of education and coaching options and improved teacher delivery.”
