Boreham Wood will seek to reach next season’s re-branded National League on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) as they host Whitehawk in the Conference South play-off final.

The Wood overcome Havant & Waterlooville 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals and are now just 90 minutes away from a place in the highest tier of the non-league pyramid.

Sussex side Whitehawk stand in the Wood’s way and the expensively-assembled squad available to manager Steve King beat Boreham Wood 3-0 in February before the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Meadow Park a month later.

By virtue of finishing second in the regular season, Boreham Wood have home advantage for the tie and will be boosted by the fact they boast the best home record in the division – losing just four times in front of their own supporters.

Manager Ian Allinson has previously described Hawks’ playmaker Sergio Torres as the best player in the division and the Argentine brings no lack of Football League experience having turned out for Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United, Lincoln City and Crawley Town prior to the summer.

Former Crystal Palace left-back Lee Hills is also on the books at The Enclosed Ground, along with Charlton Athletic youngster Osei Sankofa, ex-West Ham United prodigy Ahmed Abdulla and one-time Brighton & Hove Albion hitman Jake Robinson.

The 28-year-old, who has also had stints at Shrewsbury Town and Northampton Town before joining the Hawks last summer, is the division’s fourth-highest scorer with 19 league strikes.

He scored in both legs of the play-offs against Basingstoke but the goals do not count towards the Golden Boot, won by Wood loanee Lee Angol thanks to his 24 strikes in the league.

Whitehawk, based in a suburb Brighton, the Hawks have risen impressively through the divisions, climbing from playing Sussex County League football just five years ago to be within a shot of National League football.

Boss King, who made his name with Macclesfield Town, has also steered Lewes from the Isthmian League Division One South into the Conference and helped Farnborough of the Southern League Premier Division as champions before missing out on back-to-back promotions in the play-offs.

The Hawks reached Saturday’s final by beating Basingstoke Town 2-1 over two legs after finishing the season in fourth position.
