Boreham Wood manager Ian Allinson says his table toppers are in a position to be shot at after going four points clear at the Conference South summit.

The Wood came from behind on Tuesday for the second time in as many games to beat Maidenhead United 2-1 at Meadow Park – three days after Sam Cox’s late winner ensured a 2-1 win over Wealdstone.

Speaking to the club’s website after victory over Maidenhead, Allinson said: “We have to keep believing in ourselves and we are now in a position to be shot at.

“We have a long way to go but we are on a little run and the six points we have just picked up have given us a platform. I will ensure that the players continue believing in what they can do.”

Junior Morias proved to be the match winner for the Wood, scoring and creating one. Despite registering nine attempts on goal in the first half, Wood went into half-time trailing 1-0 after Dave Tarpey struck seven minutes before the break.

With 14 minutes remaining Allinson’s side finally found a way past the Magpies’ rearguard. Morias played a clever one-two with Ricky Shakes before picking out the run of Angol to slot home the equaliser.

Arsenal loanee Austin Lipman tried his luck soon after, but was denied by keeper Will Britt, before the Wood snatched the winner against the run of play with just three minutes remaining.

Three days earlier it had been a similar tale as Wood overcame struggling Wealdstone at Meadow Park thanks to Cox’s last-gasp winner.

Reflecting on the win, Allinson said: “We made hard work of it against a very hard-working side who showed a great fighting spirit. I have said it before on numerous occasions this season, we created enough chances to have been out of sight and on this occasion we were reliant on two late goals.”
