Tabard’s winless start continued after falling to a 30-8 London Two North West home defeat to Staines on Saturday.

The hosts got off to a fast start and opened the scoring when the ball was recycled from the base of a scrum and Wilf Lake drove over the line from close range for an unconverted try.

But Staines responded strongly and levelled the match when they scored their first try of the contest.

A penalty to the visitors fired them in front for the first time in the match.

The hosts made a promising start to the second half and forced a series of penalties, although this did not translate to the scoreboard.

Tabard thought they had scored but the referee ruled out the try for crossing in midfield.

A high tackle then led to a penalty which Harry Gough slotted over to make it 8-8.

Staines responded immediately by scoring four tries in quick succession.

Tabard found themselves chasing shadows as their defence was cut to pieces and the score moved to 30-8 with 15 minutes to play.

The young Tabard side eventually found some composure and to their credit they responded with some positive rugby but were unable to add to their score.

Despite taking the lead in each game, Tabard are yet to record their first victory.

The side travel to Hammersmith and Fulham tomorrow (Saturday) as they look to get off the mark this season.

Tabard women secured another win on Sunday as they defeated Epsom and Surrey 25-0.

The victory puts them second in the NC South East West Two.
