Boreham Wood moved to the top of the Conference South after thumping Eastbourne Borough 5-2 on Monday night.

Ian Allinson’s side brushed aside their opponents to complete back-to-back wins after a 1-0 victory at Gosport Borough on Saturday following a second-half goal from Lee Angol.

Speaking to the club website after Monday’s win, Allinson said: “We felt we needed to take the initiative away from them from the start, given they were fresh from not playing on Saturday.

“They are the best side we have faced so far and play good football at pace. It was a good atmosphere tonight and some excellent football was played, before the game took on a more blood and thunder feel.”

Wood got off to a superb start as they led 2-0 after just seven minutes.

Austin Lipman fired the hosts in front before a stunning volley from Graeme Montgomery doubled their advantage.

Adam Watts pulled one back for previously unbeaten Boro but Angol volleyed in his sixth goal in eight matches to restore Wood’s two-goal cushion.

Eastbourne were reduced to ten men before the break when Richard Paquette was sent off for elbowing Callum Reynolds.

The visitors produced a decent response in the second half but Wood punished them when they added the fourth goal after 75 minutes.

Sam Cox released Austin Lipman and he fired home to seal the points.

Boro got their second goal of the match when Darren Lok netted.

Wood rounded off an excellent evening late on when they scored their fifth of the game.

Angol set up Matty Whichelow and he fired home.

Wood will be favourites to defeat struggling Chelmsford City when they host them this weekend.

Reflecting on their last two wins, Allinson said: “To win two tough games like that in 48 hours was extremely pleasing, bit it will count for nothing if we do not carry on in the same manner against Chelmsford City.”

The Wood boss added: “We need to be consistent and put a run together after all of our hard work against the two Boroughs.

“Chelmsford are always a handful and we will need to be at our best. Asides from consistency we need that atmosphere inside the stadium like we had on Monday night. We need more fans coming down to watch us and getting behind the lads, they really appreciate it.”
