Tabard started their pre-season with a 19-17 friendly win over Old Dunstablians.

Their opponents took the lead and Tabard went into the second half trailing 5-0.

Tabard conceded another try before Elliott Hurrell burst from inside his own half to score a fine individual effort. Sam Barrow’s conversion narrowed the gap to just three points.

The pace of Harry Smith was shown to great effect when he raced through from 30m to score the converted try.

Tabard extended their lead when a kick fell to Ronnie Alder and he grounded the ball in the corner.

Old Dunstablians scored against the run of play but Tabard held on to win.

The side will face Hitchin tomorrow (Saturday) as the Herts Tankard gets underway.

Tabard have been chosen by the Rugby Football Union to receive one of the transforming social spaces grants for the 2015 World Cup. The grant will help enhance the club’s facilities and provide a resource for the local community.

Tabard have also received a grant from Hertsmere Borough Council.
