Shenley Village remain top of the Saracens Hertfordshire League Division One after a 33-run home win over second-place Broxbourne on Saturday.

Twenty-eight points clear of second-placed Dunstable, if Shenley keep up their impressive form, they will secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

On a damp pitch, Shenley won the toss and elected to bat first but came up against an in-form bowler in Broxbourne’s K.Gill, who finished with figures of seven for 39.

Openers Lloyd Willington (10) and Charlie Thurston (25) provided a solid if unspectacular start, before Kris Nissen (18) and Anooj Vagdama (36) put on a partnership of 40.

By the time Vagdama was caught by C.Dungaria, the hosts were on 131 and just four overs later, had been removed for 141 – their lowest score of the season.

Gill, who had proved the thorn in Shenley’s side with the ball, started well with the bat, making 37 before being bowled by Nissen.

It was Nissen who proved to be the star with the ball for the home side, taking seven wickets of his own and conceding 48 runs from 11.1 overs.

G.Davies offered a little late resistance before Kiwi off-spinner Tom Bruce (one for three) took the penultimate wicket as Broxbourne were removed for 108.

In the Premier League, Radlett succumbed to an 87-run loss at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Put into bat by the visitors, Hemel made 222 before bowling Radlett out for 135.

Radlett remain second in the table despite defeat.

Shenley Village Under-10s have been crowned County champions after a successful Finals Day of the Hertfordshire Junior League season.

The day began for Shenley with a 21-run semi-final win over Harpenden, who had been unbeaten for two years before meeting their opponents.

The two teams had met at last year’s Finals Day, where the then Under-9s were beaten by Harpenden.

Langleybury stood between Shenley and silverware after their opponents beate Radlett comfortably in the semi-finals.

Sharp fielding from Shenley shaped the game, with Graydon Orchard making back-to-back direct-hit run outs prior to two invaluable catches from Ben Werter.

Oliver White bowled well to finish with figures of two for three, whilst Ollie Kaye and Zahid Nasser both enjoyed economical spells at the crease, taking a wicket apiece.

Langleybury closed their innings on 226 – their lowest score of their season. Both teams begin with 200 runs and are deducted five runs for every wicket lost in their 16 overs, with the batsmen batting in pairs.

Kieran Agnihotri and Oliver Channer were the stand-out batsmen for Langleybury, finishing on 13 not out and 15 not out respectively.

Max Delyfer and Lewis Blood made a steady start at the crease, with Kaye and White impressing as a partnership to give their side a four-wicket cushion after the first eight overs.

Orchard, Nasser and William Poynton all contributed valuable runs from the lower order, with just three wickets falling en route to a total of 267 – enough to see Shenley to a 41-run win.
