Arsenal Ladies’ disappointing start to the season dragged on after losing 2-0 at home to Birmingham City on Wednesday night.

It leaves the Gunners still looking for their first league win of the campaign after defeats in two of their first three games.

This was the fourth meeting between the sides this season already with Arsenal knocking them out of the FA Cup but losing to them in the Champions League.

The hosts found it difficult to break down Birmingham in the first half with the visitors denying them space.

Arsenal almost fell behind early on when Kirsty Linnett’s low strike was saved by Emma Byrne.

The home keeper was again called into action to keep out a hooked effort from Remi Allen.

The closest Arsenal came was a volley from Kelly Smith which was pushed over the bar by Rebecca Spencer.

Arsenal fell behind at the start of the second half when a slip by Leah Williamson allowed Linnett to round the keeper and score.

The visitors sealed the win when Allen released Linnett and she fired home.

Arsenal Ladies will host a skills school for young supporters ahead of their Super League match with Bristol Academy on Sunday which kicks off at 2pm.

The session will be open to boys and girls aged between five and 13. It will include an hour of coaching and the chance to meet some of Arsenal Ladies’ star names.

Participants will also have the chance to show off their skills on the Meadow Park pitch during half-time, with signed Arsenal first team and Ladies shirts up for grabs as prizes.
