A late penalty denied Boreham Wood maximum points as Dover Athletic snatched a 2-2 draw at Meadow Park.

Ian Allinson’s side made a bright start to the Conference South match and went close through Mario Noto but his shot was cleared off the line after just two minutes on Saturday.

Dover keeper Mitchell Walker was being kept busy and he was forced into a save to keep out Austin Lipman’s cross-shot.

Graeme Montgomery nearly gave the hosts the lead but his strike was saved from distance by Walker.

Dover Athletic grabbed the opening goal which came against the run of play. Barry Cogan’s free-kick was saved by James Russell but Jeff Goulding netted the rebound.

Wood continued to dominate the first half but their pressure went unrewarded as Callum Reynolds and Charlie O’Loughlin both failed to find the target with headers.

Dover should have made it 2-0 at the start of the second half when Tom Murphy raced clear on goal but he fired over the bar.

Wood levelled the contest ten minutes after the restart when Montgomery’s free-kick was headed past his own keeper by Terrell Forbes.

Allinson’s side took the lead just two minutes later when Montgomery struck a 30-yard shot into the net for a deserved second goal.

The hosts looked in control but were hit by a sucker punch when Mark Jones conceded a penalty in the 80th minute for fouling Sean Raggett. Goulding blasted home the spot-kick to clinch a point for the visitors.

Teenager Junior Morais made his debut for Wood after joining on a one-month loan from Wycombe. The 18-year-old forward has been brought in along with Chairboys striker Lee Angol.

Allinson told the club website: “We welcome both Lee and Junior to the club and in them we have two young professionals who are hungry to succeed and show what they can do at this level.

“If they work hard and we give them the service I am confident they will score goals for us.”

Wood’s home game with Farnborough on Monday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Their next game is at Sutton United on Saturday afternoon.
