Struggling Villagers Docked Points Again
Shenley Village 181-8
Hertford 182-6
Hertfordshire Division Four
Bottom placed Shenley put up their best home batting performance of the season on Saturday but still managed to lose against Hertford.
Skipper Steve Scott won the toss and chose to bat. He went on to score his second duck in a row after opening the batting.
St John Fuller (25) was joined by Colin Searle and put on 49 for the second wicket.
Searle, who went on to make a magnificent knock of 83, was joined by a series of partners as his side reached 181 for 8 from 53 overs.
Liam Willingham hit 16 and Danny Manzi, making his first-team debut at the age of 66, also made a contribution.
Ed Lilywhite hit a quickfire 26, while Jon Haley scored 15 not out.
Hertford reached 48 before losing their first wicket, taken by Tim Leathers (2 for 30).
Jon Haley's introduction to the attack yielded three wickets.
However, with only one more wicket to fall, Hertford eased to their target with just seven balls remaining. Shenley emerged from the match with 12 points.
Skipper Steve Scott was disappointed with his side for failing to defend a sizeable total but praised the efforts of Colin Searle and St John Fuller.
Shenley were later docked five points by league officials for failing to submit in time the match result.
Shenley can ill afford to drop points as they struggle to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
This Saturday, Shenley entertain Stevenage (1.30pm start).
SHENLEY: Scott, Fuller, Searle, Willingham, Manzi, Lilywhite, Kemp, Haley, Leathers, Woodward, Shadbolt.
