Shenley Village 205-9
Hatfield Hyde 204
Saracens Herts League Division Five
The Hatfield Hyde captain won the toss and decided to bat first.
Opening bowler David Shelley did not take long to claim Hatfield's number two batsman. The next batter settled into Shelley's bowling and Geoff Evans was introduced into the attack to stem the flow of runs at that end.
Hatfield's batsmen then went about the task of trying to pick balls to hit on a track which was bouncing viciously. They managed to get the score to 58 before Evans took his only wicket. Nauman Saqeb and James Davenall were the pick of Shenley's bowlers returning figures of 3-51 runs from 18.2 overs and 3 wickets for 21 runs from seven overs.
Hatfield were all out for 204 in 51.2 overs. Shenley wanted to get off to a cautious start but Dilesh Sangaran was bowled in the third over for two runs and Shenley on 3-1.
It wasn't until the 32nd over that Wahab was dismissed caught behind for 61 with Shenley on 119 for 2, a partnership of 116 runs.
Shenley didn't have anything to lose apart from the 30 points for a win and all batsmen threw caution to the wind needing a run a ball.
Opener Jemille Al-Darraji was out LBW with what looked like a harsh decision considering the ball hit his bat before his pad. His wicket fell in the 38th over with the score on 138. Richard Evans scored 12 runs before being caught leaving the score on 145 at the end of the 38th over, which left Shenley needing 60 runs from 60 balls.
Jose Fedee scored 16 runs but it wasn't long before he had to join the spectators on the boundary.
Shenley needed two runs from the last three deliveries. The first and second delivery were stopped close in and by now the spectators had given up hope of winning as the fielders all moved out towards the boundary to stop two runs.
You could cut the tension with a knife. The last ball was delivered short and wide off Shelley's off-stump.
He smashed the ball to seal a victory with four runs, which sparked big celebrations.
