    Holtwhites Trinibis 112
    Shenley Village 113-3
    Saracens Herts League Division Five

Shenley captain Rahul Gajjar lost the toss at the Shenley cricket centre and the opposition decided to bat first after a week of heavy rain.

The opening bowling pair of David Shelley and Nauman Saqeb soon had the ball lifting on a damp pitch and it was not long until Saqeb took the wicket of Holtwhites opener P Hewit for four runs, who could only look on as the off-stump cartwheeled down the ground.

In the next over Shelley clean-bowled the other opening batsman for nine runs and Holtwhites were 14-2 at the end of the fifth over.

Shelley and Saqeb then really turned on the pressure, bowling five maidens in succession and taking another two wickets.

Saqeb's perfect ball pitched on middle stump and moved away to clip the top of the off-stump to leave the visitors reeling on 14-3 with Saqeb on 2-2.

A big in-swinging yorker in the next over saw Holtwhites number three and four batsmen back in the pavilion having failed to add to the total.

This brought Bacchus to the crease and the all-rounder started to play some good shots.

It looked as though Shelley's dropped catch at fine leg of the bowling off James Davenall was going to be costly. Bacchus went on to make an extra 27 runs before being dismissed by Geoff Evans for 36, trapped leg before wicket after Evans wore the batsman down with his constant line and length.

Davenall also claimed his wicket the same way and had the number six batsman for 12 runs. Jemile Al-Darraji came on to bowl out the tail claiming 13-3.

Holtwhites were all out for 112 runs in the 38th over and the Shenley fielders were rewarded with an early tea.

Shenley got off to a shaky start seeing Gajjar caught for six runs and Shenley left at 22-1 at the end of the fifth over.

Fazley Wahab came to the crease to join Gareth Brown and the batsmen decided to get the runs in boundaries before Brown was caught out on 18 runs, with the Shenley score on 30-2 at the end of the seventh over.

Richard Evans was unlucky to give a catch away before he'd got off the mark.

This left Wahab and Al-Darraji at the crease, who made a wonderful partnership of 82 to win the game in the 24th over. Wahab finsihed on 65 not out runs with Al-Darraji on 20 not out.

It was a good thing it was a short game as the sky opened up just as the players got back into the pavilion.

Shenley are now in a good spot for promotion into division four on 323 points, 14 points leaders Rickmansworth and 16 points ahead of third-placed Old Haberdashers.
