Bowling blues for twos
Shenley Village seconds were once again victims of their bowling attack or lack of it as they went down by eight wickets in their last home game of the campaign.
Thankfully, with enough points earlier in the season, it has saved them from a dogfight at the foot of the table with three games left to play.
Playing with ten men after a few morning withdrawals, it was going to be an uphill struggle, but surprisingly the opposition captain decided to place Shenley in on a batting track. With a completely changed side to the one that drew with Clarendon the previous week Andy Lewis and Dave Stubbs opened the batting.
It was 27 for one when Stubbs (13) played on in the eighth over. Lewis was joined by Bob Voyce making his second team debut and he crafted a good innings as the partnership made 70 when Lewis was unfortunately bowled off his pads for a determined 45. Manzi (5) and then Voyce (36) both fell when the score was on 114.
Dave Wilson (16) and Liam Willingham (4) also departed as the overs dwindled. Once in Munting and Lloyd Willingham went after the bowling and had pushed the score to 179 for 6 as the last ball was to be bowled.
But the run out of Willingham ensued and nothing was added to the final total.
179 runs wasn’t going to be enough to defend with only ten players, unless there was some form of penetrative bowling attack and things looked promising as the two North Mymms' openers Tyler and Lawless were removed within the first nine over spell by Wilson and Lloyd Willingham, who took a wicket apiece.
But things have simply not gone the second’s way when bowling.
Bulger 73 not out and Bennett 69 not out saw North Mymms III home in 33.3 overs, although two difficult catches went down against Bulger.
SVCC II: Lewis, Stubbs (wkt), Voyce, Manzi, Willingham Liam, Munting (capt), Wilson, Willingham Lloyd, Wood, Jennings
Shenley Village II 179-7
