Today I received a ‘Stakeholder’s letter’ from Transport for London (TfL) entitled: Notification of Stirling Corner Traffic Signal Removal Trial Extension.

I can only express my absolute outrage at TfL’s complete lack of integrity, disrespectfulness to our community and sheer life-threatening stupidity.

This organisation is putting my life and others at risk and hence I take a very dim view of your decision about this scheme and now this thoughtless extension.

I also take a very dim view when we are called stakeholders yet, quite frankly, TfL has ignored us and not listened to a word we've said. I find this most insulting.

Myself and others who feel the same way took valuable time to sign petitions and attend the council's transport forum meeting on July 21. We were assured there, and via the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, that this ridiculous and highly dangerous trial was going to end.

I regularly used to use this roundabout and, even with part-time traffic lights, literally used to pray for my safety in crossing it. Now I hardly use Stirling Corner at all, unless I absolutely have to or go via bus, simply because I don't want to die at the age of 45 because of someone's thoughtless decision or have my car damaged when using it.

I put it to TfL that every single accident in relation to this trial exercise, be it damage to cars, injuries (including serious life-changing ones) and any deaths and all the dreadful upset it causes the families effected will rest entirely on its shoulders. Where appropriate, I hope a prison sentence is applicable to the ultimate decision maker should such a terrible incident occur. It is down to pure luck that the level of accidents or damage has not been any worse, but it is only a matter of time.

There is also a huge volume of traffic that builds up outside my home along Barnet Lane and Furzehill Road, which that is directly related to your scheme.

This not only wears out the road surface but causes me and others a big increase of car-related pollution (both noise and dirt) into my garden and home.

I live in hope that common sense will prevail and the traffic lights are switched back on again permanently with any luck and if there's any consideration for the Community of People who use this roundabout.
