Would the council please consider offering the keys to the borough of Hertsmere to the armed forces?

I understand the Royal Anglian Regiment would be the appropriate recipients of this prestigious honour from a grateful people who have every reason to be proud of and profoundly indebted to the courage and sacrifice displayed by these brave men and woman who once again without question or hesitation have responded to our nation’s call to arms.

Although the evidence alleged to have justified the war in Iraq was considered afterwards by many people to have been duplicitous in the extreme, this has nothing to do with the granting of an honour by Hertsmere Borough Council on behalf of the people.

The people of Hertsmere must be permitted to express their appreciation in the only collective manner available by inviting those in time of war and conflict, who despite their commitment to families and friends are prepared to lay down their lives without fear or favour on behalf of their country.

I believe businesses within Hertsmere would be more than willing to contribute to this community demonstration of appreciation.
